Remember a Charity Week 2019

9 to 15 September was Remember A Charity Week 2019. We and our Remember A Charity members spent the week inspiring more people to leave money to charities in their wills.

On Monday Remember a Charity patron Len Goodman appeared on this morning to talk about the importance of legacy giving.

The legacy that started it all: Michael Lewin remembers his uncle Bob

We published the story of how it all began for AYM, back in 1998. If it were not for the legacy of Robert Lewin, we would not exist at all.

On a sunny morning in July Michael Lewin invited Caius Lee to his home to share a story close to his heart: that of his uncle Bob and how his legacy started it all for AYM…

We asked the question: Why are gifts in Wills so important?

“Because everyone can leave them!”

Sanpreet Janjua

“They mean you can keep supporting your favourite cause.”

Angharad Thomas-French

“Because they’ve helped us to support over 3,000 young musicians.”

Dispelling myths about legacy giving

We’re breaking down some of the myths about legacy giving. One is that it’s complicated and costly to add a charity to your Will. This wasn’t what AYM Champion Clare experienced, as she explains:

My husband and I were keen to ensure that when we no longer need it any more, some of our money is used to benefit charities that we have supported throughout our lives.

We think the work that AYM does with young people is fabulous.  We love that they enable children from all backgrounds to develop their musical skills.

We found it very easy to add AYM to our Wills. We did it via a meeting with our solicitor. It’s nice to know we have that box ticked now!

“I knew I wanted to do it to honour Richard’s memory.”

In this guest blog, AYM Angel Diana Toeman shares her and her late husband Richard’s musical journeys, how they came to hear about our work and why she’s made the decision to support AYM in her Will.
