Furthering Talent: End of Year Review 2021
2021 was an eventful year for many reasons and we really wanted to share some of the fantastic work that has taken place as part of the Furthering Talent programme…
Read more16 year old Noah from Surrey began playing the French horn when he was 7 years old. As he says:
“I went to a ‘Come and Play day’ run by Kingston Music Service. I tried so many instruments! After a while I had narrowed it down to the French horn or the cello. I picked the horn and started lessons with the local music service.”
Noah progressed quickly: he soon joined the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain and last year successfully auditioned for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
“I am incredibly proud to be in NYO this year. The sound we make is amazing! I’m so excited for the year ahead.”
Orchestral playing is a passion for Noah:
“It’s such an incredible feeling to connect in creating music. The joy I experience making music with other people my age is just fantastic. I love every minute of every piece, even if I’m sitting there with 80 bars rest!”
Noah has received AYM’s The Cheryl King Award which has supported his lessons at the Royal College of Music Junior Department.
“The Cheryl King Award has contributed towards extending my lessons which has really made a difference to my playing. AYM has helped me a lot, not just in the financial sense, but also with opportunities and exposure to different genres of music. I really enjoy meeting other young musicians at the Awards Days. I can’t wait for more!”
With support from our donors and funders like The Cheryl King Trust, we’re here to help hundreds of young musicians like Noah. Thank you!
If you are, or know, a young musician like Noah, aged 5-17, with bags of musical potential who needs support for musical costs, AYM could help!
