Furthering Talent: End of Year Review 2021

Read moreMusic is central to 15 year old Aurora’s life. As she says:
“My hobbies consist of practising music, listening to music and studying music.”
After hearing a flute on the radio when she was three years old, Aurora asked her mother if she could learn. Not able to find a teacher at that time, Aurora began playing on the fife – a small wooden instrument, similar to a piccolo.
Aged seven, she picked up the flute with a teacher at her school, and eventually secured a place at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Juniors where she continues her studies.
Aurora loves her Saturdays there: she takes the performance class, plays in a wind quintet, wind orchestra and in the symphony orchestra where she alternates playing first flute and piccolo (bringing her back to her fife playing roots!). She continues:
“AYM has helped so much because my mum has had to cover all my music costs up till now alone, so this Award has helped her as much as me. My Award has allowed me to have longer lessons with my teacher and to continue my studies at RCS Juniors.”
There is no Plan B for Aurora in life, as she dreams of one day becoming a professional orchestral flautist.
“My dream is to play Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun by Debussy in the Berlin Philharmonic or an orchestra that travels the world. Because music to me is everything: it is every colour in the rainbow and so much more. The ability to tell stories and travel to different places is completely unmatched.”
AYM is only able to help young musicians like Aurora fulfil their musical dreams because of the generosity of our supporters.
If you are, or if you know, a young musician like Aurora, aged 5-17, with bags of musical potential who needs support for musical costs, AYM could help.
