15 year old Ivo started playing the viola when he was seven years old. In 2020, he received AYM’s Joan Scrutton Award for advanced string players. He says:
“I’ve had an incredible time on my musical journey so far. I’ve been a member of the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain and I’ve won prizes with my string quartet, including the chance to perform at the Albert Hall, which was amazing! I was also a finalist in the Brent Young Musician competition.
“I’m really enjoying exploring the repertoire written for solo viola, especially music by Hindemith.
“I’ve used the Award money to help pay for my fees to attend the Junior Guildhall School of Music of Drama. I was so excited when I got offered a place but my parents were worried about the fees. Now we’re all happy!
“I’ve been enjoying my first term so far although we are restricted and can’t do any orchestra work for now. I’m really looking forward to being able to play in a group again soon.”
We’re able to support young musicians like Ivo thanks to support of our donors and funders. Thank you to everyone who gives talent a chance!
The Joan Scrutton Music Trust Award supports five exceptional string every year. AYM and The Joan Scrutton Music Trust have joined forces. With the combined organisation adopting the Awards for Young Musicians name, while the legacy of The Joan Scrutton Trust lives on through these Awards.
