Why leaving a legacy is so important
At AYM we work continuously to raise more funds to support young musicians, to give their talent a chance. By leaving a legacy you can help our work develop and flourish in the future.
It’s a common myth that only the rich and famous leave money to charity when they die. This couldn’t be further from the truth. The reality is that without gifts left in Wills, many of the charities we know and support wouldn’t even exist. AYM itself was founded thanks to the generous legacy of Robert Lewin.
74% of the UK population support charities; when asked, 35% say they’d happily leave a gift in their Will once family and friends had been provided for. The problem is only 7% actually do.
That’s why, if we all leave some money in our Wills for charity as well as our family, we can make a huge difference and generate billions every year for good causes in the UK.
Creating an impact on future generations
Legacies and gifts make a substantial impact on AYM’s work; we hope that you will join others who have generously assisted us, by leaving a gift in your Will. You will help us continue to expand our work, work which is needed more than ever in the current financial climate. Writing your Will is quite rightly a very personal choice; naturally your family and loved ones should be considered first; having done this, we hope that you will consider supporting AYM.
In leaving a legacy gift you could make a real and tangible impact on the future of AYM. Unrestricted gifts give us the greatest flexibility; they ensure that your bequest will support the area of greatest need, and help young musicians of the future to make the most of their talent and potential.
Making a gift
Because AYM is a charity (Registration Number 1070994), if you are a UK taxpayer gifts made either during your lifetime or through you Will are generally tax-efficient and can help reduce Inheritance Tax. You may be able to claim back tax that you have already paid, or reduce your tax liability for the relevant year. Please note that this is general guidance only – we recommend that you seek independent legal and tax advice when you are making a legacy gift or Will, or amending an existing Will.
Helping to transform lives
Every year we support hundreds of young people across the UK; demand for our help considerably outstrips the resources we have available. A legacy gift could transform the life of many young musicians.
Supporting AYM’s future
We understand that your Will is private and that you may not wish to tell us that you are intending to support AYM in this way. If, however, you would like to share your plans with us, we encourage you to do so by completing the form below (Leaving a legacy: expression of interest). We will then be able to invite you to one of our special events which recognises and thanks our supporters.
