Furthering Talent: End of Year Review 2021
2021 was an eventful year for many reasons and we really wanted to share some of the fantastic work that has taken place as part of the Furthering Talent programme…
Read moreMiles fell in love with music at an early age. His mum, Emma, says:
“I still remember the first time he played a tune. We went to a friend’s house one day and she’d bought a toy keyboard for her son. Miles played with it and was smitten from there on.”
Thanks to Furthering Talent Miles was able to start weekly piano lessons two years ago. From teaching himself by ear from YouTube he now also reads music and enjoys learning music from multiple genres. His confidence has flourished and he enjoys performing. Last year, Miles was seen by thousands of people when he played a solo piano improvisation for Jamie Cullum as part his Guinness World Record attempt for the largest music lesson ever held! Emma continues:
“I really was incredibly proud. It’s such a massive achievement. Miles has autism, which somehow made the whole experience much more poignant to me. He honestly can achieve anything he wants. I can’t thank AYM enough for looking out for him and for recognising what he might become – it means everything.”
Since then, despite some medical setbacks, Miles has achieved a Distinction in his Grade 7 piano exam. His love of music continues to grow and he’s always teaching himself how to play new instruments including the drums, flute, ukulele and violin!
Thanks goes to our supporters – with their help we’re able to give young musicians like Miles the chance to reach their potential.
